Cat of the Week - Hercules

Updated: Aug 30, 2023

We already showcase our Cats of the Month in our Newsletter (next one out next week) but we felt it important to remind you of some of our residents who have now been with us for years. Some may not be as instantly beautiful as Shirazis, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what they lack in conventional beauty they make up for in personality and resilience. Some bear the scars of a hard life on the streets and for some, like Hercules, this hardship began in the first weeks of their life. All would love a home where they are a very special person. We ask you to take a look again and see whether you, or someone you know, could offer them their forever happy place. If you feel you could then please get in touch by emailing us at

HERCULES has now been with us for three years. He is an Egyptian Domestic Shorthair* who was born in 2020. He was rescued from the street after Sherouk found him struggling to keep up with his mum during one of her twice daily feeding of the street cats. One eye was sunken and the other only had partial vision due to being covered by the 3rd eyelid so for safety's sake he was taken in. He recovered but was left cross- eyed. However, despite his disabilities he proved to be a tough little kitten and so was given the name Hercules. Now three years' old he is a loving boy and will make a great pet. He is good with cats, dogs and humans.

Here are some photos of Hercules when he was found as a kitten. Surely after such a fight to become the handsome boy he now is he deserves a very special home? And you may just spot him on the back row of our Playtime Video in 'Our Cats at Home'. He has a good forearm swipe

If you would love to adopt Hercules but circumstances don't permit you can help him by sponsoring him for just £25 a month. This will provide him with food, shelter and veterinary care. Contact us on the email above and we will explain how to do so. Thank you in advance for considering this.

Stop Press - Hercules now has a sponsor. Could you sponsor one of our 280 other cats?

See our Sponsorship section on our Home Page at www.cairocatrescue.com

With thanks to Sherouk for the photos
